Living with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia

People with primary ciliary dyskinesia can help improve their health and daily quality of life by keeping a short list in mind:

  • Get annual flu shots and talk to your doctor about the pneumococcal pneumonia vaccine.
  • Do not smoke and stay away from secondhand smoke—smoking and secondhand smoke irritate your lungs and also can cause your lungs to produce more mucus.
  • Exercise regularly to help your overall health, and to help open airways and strengthen your respiratory muscles so that you can get rid of mucus.
  • Breathe deeply.
