LUNG FORCE Luncheon

Charlotte Rothfarb is a vibrant and perpetually optimistic at the age of 86, but over six years ago, something happened to challenge that optimism.

Although she quit smoking 20 years ago, doctors diagnosed her with stage IV lung cancer at the age of 80. Having lost her ex-husband to lung disease several years ago, she feared the same for herself. However, she received positive news after meeting with the oncology team at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. She underwent palliative chemotherapy for several years but was informed that she was a candidate for a new therapy at the time, called targeted immunotherapy.

Six years later, she has had tremendous success with immunotherapy. Remarkably, she just recently completed another pet scan which confirmed that she has no active lung cancer at all.

LUNG FORCE Behind the Scenes

In May, her son Howard J. Finkelstein was the of master ceremony for the annual LUNG FORCE Luncheon held in South Florida. Both he and his mother took the stage to share their story with an audience of over 325 community supporters. With her other children in the audience, it was a surreal moment for her knowing that she's been given another chance at life, something she hopes for other lung cancer patients, as we strive to find a cure for all.

She recently shared her success story during a special Turquoise Takeover health segment hosted by WPLG Channel 10's Kristi Krueger, shot on site at University of Miami at Sylvester, in Plantation, Fla. on May 9, 2017.
