About Asthma Camp

Camp Superkids helps improve the physical condition and psychological outlook of children with asthma and educates campers and their families on how to better manage their disease.

Who Can Attend?

Any child, ages 8-14, who has moderate or severe asthma.

Camp Staff

Highly skilled doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, counselors and program leaders provide medical supervision and instruction at Camp Superkids 24 hours-a-day.

Accommodations

Campers stay in air conditioned cabins. All food is provided. Contact the YMCA Camp Kitaki with concerns about food allergy accommodations at 402-434-9222. Kitaki is a peanut- and tree-nut safe camp, meaning no products are served with those ingredients; however, some of the items are made in a facility that also processes those items. Campers should bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

Transportation

The American Lung Association in Nebraska does not provide transportation from the Omaha area. Depending on number of campers registered for each area, we will provide transportation from western Nebraska, Des Moines and Kansas City.

Recreational Activities

Campers enjoy swimming, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, ropes courses, arts & crafts, all-camp games, fishing and more...

The Asthma Camp Experience

  • During asthma education sessions, campers learn about their asthma, their triggers, how to avoid an exacerbation and how to better manage their asthma.
  • Campers learn the difference between medications taken to prevent an attack and medications taken to stop an attack.
  • Throughout Camp Superkids, campers learn about their asthma in a welcoming environment while making friends with kids just like them!
  • The American Lung Association provides support for families of children with asthma. our Lung HelpLine provides year-round support to answer questions free of charge. Call 1-800-LUNGUSA.
