American Lung Association Prepares for the 5th Annual Fight for Air Climb: New York City

(March 19, 2015)

The American Lung Association is preparing for its 5th annual Fight for Air Climb: New York City on Saturday, March 21 at One Penn Plaza. to raise money to fight lung disease. Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer of both men and women and lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the first climbers will take off at 9 a.m. The Firefighter Challenge will start at 11:30 a.m.

Fight for Air Climbs are the American Lung Association’s most unique fundraisers. Climbs take place in prominent skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and involve walking, running or racing up hundreds of steps. Sometimes called a "vertical road race," teams and individual participants can use the event as a fitness target, as a race, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends.

“The American Lung Association is excited to be returning to One Penn Plaza for the fifth year in a row,” said Jeff Seyler, President & CEO of the American Lung Association of the Northeast. “Hosting one of our many Fight for Air Climbs at Penn Plaza is a great fit for the Empire State as the location is our tallest climb in the Northeast.  We sincerely thank One Penn Plaza for continuing to host us and are looking forward to working with them in the future,” Seyler said.

Participants will tackle 55 floors and over 1,000 steps to make it to the top of Penn Plaza. Last year the climb brought in over 120 firefighters who helped raise over $200,000. This year, 10 firefighter teams will participate in the climb dressed in their full gear and over 400 participants are expected to attend.

An awards ceremony will be held immediately following the Fight for Air Climb: New York City at the Lugo Cucina Italiana, which is located outside of One Penn Plaza. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the first climber will take off at 9 a.m. For more information or to register, e-mail NYCClimb@LungNe.org or call Christina Singh , Event Manager at 917.210.5643.
