Honolulu Kicks Off LUNG FORCE With Turquoise Celebration of Hope

On Wednesday, May 14 the city of Honolulu officially kicked off its LUNG FORCE campaign against lung cancer and for women's lung health. Local lung cancer survivors as well as medical professionals in the community, representatives from local government, and the American Lung Association in Hawaii gathered at Honolulu Hale for a celebration of hope that we will defeat lung cancer- the number one cancer killer of men and women.

Honolulu Hale was lit turquoise as a part of Turquoise Takeover, a visual blast of the LUNG FORCE signature color to raise awareness and excitement about this movement. Event highlights included a mayoral proclamation of National Women's Lung Health Week, presented by Honolulu's Deputy Managing Director Georgette Deemer and City Council Chair Ernest Martin; remarks from local lung cancer survivors and medical professionals sharing their hope for cures;as well as the unveiling of new LUNG FORCE-themed art by Dennis McGeary to support the cause. Guests enjoyed decorations and refreshments donated by Party City, Hokulani Bake Shop and Safeway.

"It was so exciting to see folks gather around one common mission, to see the energy that was built that evening, and we were so humbled at the stories and experiences shared," says Kim Nguyen, Hawaii Director at the American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific. "It was so impressive for us to come together, as a state and as part of a national movement.  We are very much looking forward to mobilizing and collaborating with our ohana and our communities to advance this initiative."
