Fidelity Investments Team Will Help Lung Association Raise Funds at Fight for Air Climb: Providence on March 28
(March 26, 2015)
On Saturday, March 28 Matt Simoneau of Greenville and his team from Fidelity Investments will be tackling the 348 steps of the Omni Providence Hotel at 1 West Exchange Street all to raise money to fight lung disease. For Simoneau, the climb is personal: he lost two family members to lung cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer of both men and women and lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Many of the more than 1,000 participants and 200 firefighters expected to attend the climb have some personal connection to lung disease.
For Simoneau, a commitment to raising awareness about lung disease and helping the Lung Association grow the Providence event so that more money can be dedicated to research is what drives his success in both fundraising and recruitment. The Fidelity Team, which he captains, has grown to 30 members this year and has raised over $25,000 over the last three years. He also helped secure Fidelity Investments as a corporate sponsor of the event.
“Lung health is very important to me, personally, and I’ve been involved with the Lung Association for several years now,” said Simoneau. “I’m proud to work for a firm that believes in health and wellness, and also in being a good neighbor to our local community. With Fidelity’s help, I have been able to create awareness about this event and recruit more than 30 colleagues to take part in this event, which is tremendous."
Fight for Air Climbs are the American Lung Association’s most unique fundraisers. Climbs take place in prominent skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and involve walking, running or racing up hundreds of steps. Sometimes called a "vertical road race," teams and individual participants can use the event as a fitness target, as a race, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends. Many participants use it as a way to honor a family member that has been affected by lung disease.
“The American Lung Association is grateful to have supporters like MattSimoneau and Fidelity Investments as partners in the fight against lung disease,” said Jeff Seyler, President & CEO of the American Lung Association of the Northeast. “Their participation and fundraising efforts help us fulfill our mission of saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.”
