Mountain West Hard Cider’s Launch Party Honors Friend With Lung Cancer and Raises Money for American Lung Association in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (March 1, 2016) Mountain West Hard Cider held its launch party on February 11 to finally celebrate the storefront’s opening on November 9, 2015. Over 100 friends, family, and Mountain West supporters attended the event with owners Jennifer and Jeff Carleton, cidermaker Joel Goodwillie, and other staff members.

Each guest was given a Mountain West Hard Cider stainless steel pint glass with two red rings. These rings gave each guest the opportunity to play the Ruby Ring Toss Game that Mountain West had set up near the photo booth. For each ring made by guests, Mountain West Hard Cider owners contributed a cash donation to the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative. LUNG FORCE is a new national movement led by the American Lung Association to unite women against lung cancer, the #1 cancer killer of women.

The owners chose the American Lung Association in Utah as their charity of choice to specifically honor their friend, Carrie Snyder-Junge, who has stage IV lung cancer. Carrie was diagnosed with lung cancer a year and a half ago.  After returning from her honeymoon in Spain, she just couldn’t shake the burning sensation when taking a deep breathe. After several doctor visits and an eventual chest X-ray, she was told she had just two to three months to live, a year at best. Carrie’s bucket list became more about small journeys of the mind, body and spirit.  It was about spending time with her two amazing grown boys, her two beautiful young stepdaughters and her friends as well as being by her husband’s side as he made each small adventure feel grand. Fighting lung cancer taught Carrie to be grateful for what she has and to know without a doubt that she loves and has been loved. Carrie has outlived her initial expiration date. With the time she has, Carrie hopes to give voice to those suffering with lung cancer through the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative.

“It was an honor that Mountain West chose their launch party to not only honor their friend Carrie but also to raise money for the American Lung Association,” said Jamie L. Riccobono, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Utah.

The evening was an amazing celebration with friends, family, and community. While munching on delicious hors d'oeuvres, sampling specialty caramels and sipping on Ruby, Mountain West Hard Cider’s flagship year-round hard cider offering, the community was able to raise over $1,400 to donate in Carrie’s honor.  “This was by far the best event we have ever had here! You could feel the incredible giving atmosphere as everyone rallied around Carrie,” mentions Jeff Carleton.
