The holidays remind us to be thankful for our family, friends and what we have. They also remind us to give back.
Here are four different ways to support local organizations who help North Dakota communities and the less fortunate.
- Donate Your Car: Tired of your old clunker? Done with scraping snow off your windshield, paying for parking or having your car towed? Donate your old car to the American Lung Association to create new hope for those suffering from lung disease. Donating your car is easy. Visit LungCars.org or call 1-800-LUNGCAR, fill out a quick form, and a tow truck will pick up your car within 48 hours. Your car donation will help fund research and programs for North Dakota residents suffering from lung disease. Your donation will also count as a deduction on your taxes for 2017.
- Buy Christmas Seals: While you are purchasing your holiday cards, wrapping paper and bows, don’t forget about the Lung Association’s Christmas Seals. This tradition dates back 110 years and is still a staple of the holiday season. The first Christmas Seals were created to help fund the treatment of tuberculosis in 1907, and now the money goes to fund research for lung cancer and local programs to help those with lung disease live better lives. Learn more at ChristmasSeals.org.
- Volunteer: Don’t have extra cash to give? Donate your time to help those in need within the community. Volunteer to help those with lung disease at several events and programs throughout the state. Find local volunteer opportunities at Lung.org/Volunteer.
- Become An Advocate: Being an advocate for those who suffer from lung disease is simple. Share your story, write a letter or make a donation to support lung health policies. Everyone deserves to breathe healthy air, have access to resources to help them quit smoking, get the best medical care and benefit from innovations in research. Learn more about how you can give back by becoming an advocate here.
This holiday season, remember the lights, the ribbons and bows and the candy canes, but don’t forget to give back to our North Dakota community. Lean more about how to donate and volunteer at Lung.org.

The American Lung Association is the leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education and advocacy. The work of the American Lung Association is focused on four strategic imperatives: to defeat lung cancer; to improve the air we breathe; to reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families; and to eliminate tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases.
