How to Know if There's a Problem

The American Lung Association worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to create a Problem Solving Checklist and an "IAQ Problem Solving Wheel" for schools to use to identify and fix indoor air problems.  Schools across the nation have used these tools since 1995. Copies are free.  You can download the checklist from EPA's website at the locations below, but the Wheel must be ordered from EPA.

  • These tools are part of the Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Toolkit, available at EPA's website, here.
  • Find the Problem-Solving Checklist in the IAQ Tools for Schools Coordinator's Guide here or download the .pdf.
  • Order the IAQ Problem Solving Wheel from EPA here.
