Roger Hamre and Becky Logan

Recipients of the American Lung Association Chairman's Award

It is with great pleasure that we recognize Rebecca Logan and Roger Hamre, longtime volunteers with the American Lung Association of North Carolina. Becky has served with the Lung Association for over 15 years in a variety of roles, rising to her current position as Chair of the state Board. Roger has been with the Lung Association for more than 20 years. He is a Past-President of the North Carolina state Board and currently serves on the National Council. Becky and Roger received the American Lung Association Chairman's Award at the annual Leadership Conference in Seattle. This prestigious award is presented on a selective basis for service above and beyond the call of duty.

Both have worked tirelessly for the American Lung Association of North Carolina for many years and really demonstrated their commitment to the cause last year when North Carolina was faced with a financial situation that threatened its existence. Strong and decisive leadership was needed quickly and Becky and Roger provided it without hesitation.

Roger came out of retirement to assume the responsibility of Interim Executive Director for 3 months -- which he did pro bono. Roger ran the day-to-day operations for North Carolina while also solving the problems that had contributed to the crisis. Becky assumed the responsibility of developing and strengthening the association financially. She solicited the support of potential patrons, opened doors to personal contacts, rallied the medical community for support, and recruited key leadership to the Board. She also created a Development Committee charged with the goal of raising $300,000. This ambitious group raised the bar and set a goal of $1 million.

Both Becky and Roger traveled the state to meet with staff and Board members to ensure that everyone involved with the association knew exactly what was going on and were included in the decision-making process.

We commend them for their exemplar leadership and for the positive results of their efforts.
