Lynda Hullstrung

Lynda Hullstrung has served as a board member for the American Lung Association in New York (ALANY) for over 10 years. Lynda, a Certified Public Accountant, currently serves as ALANY’s Treasurer and has spent countless hours ensuring that ALANY’s accounting and finances are in sound order.

Lynda’s invaluable contributions, however, extend well beyond her financial role. Everyday Lynda commutes from her Long Island home to her office in downtown Manhattan. After being regularly offended by the amount of secondhand smoke she was forced to breathe in while waiting to board her Long Island Railroad (LIRR) train, Lynda approached the ALANY Advocacy staff and asked what could be done about this issue. This led to a successful effort to make train platforms in New York smoke free. After three years of intense lobbying, the bill prohibiting smoking on all MTA-operated platforms in the state of New York was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo earlier this year.

Lynda’s connection with our mission and vision played a factor in leading to millions of commuters on the LIRR and MetroNorth train lines now enjoying smoke free train platforms. As one of ALA’s greatest advocates, we are not only grateful to Lynda for all of her professional expertise, but also that she shared an idea that will no doubt improve the lives of many commuters in the state of New York.
