Laura Delaney

For over twelve years, Laura has given unselfishly of herself to the American Lung Association of Iowa's Asthma Camp. She is a person of great integrity, strong personal conviction and unlimited energy. Laura shares her love for helping children by embracing the motto of the American Lung Association wholeheartedly, throwing her enthusiasm, energy and motivational skills into the needs of the Asthma Camp. She continuously goes above and beyond what a volunteer is asked to do. Most recently, she has volunteered to take on the role of Camp Director at our Asthma Camp.

In addition to her volunteer work for our Asthma Camp, Laura has served as a presenter for Living with Asthma Nights;  served as a presenter for the American Lung Association Lunch & Learn Asthma program; recruited teams for our local Asthma Walk;  solicited donations for the Asthma Walk; obtained in-kind donations for CampSuperKids; obtained financial sponsorship for CampSuperKids; and served as a spokesperson for the Lung Association.

Last year, Laura was honored with the American Lung Association of Iowa's Opal Fagle Award, the Association's highest honor for outstanding volunteer service. The Award is named for Opal Fagle a nurse and former American Lung Association of Iowa Board member, who spent 30 years volunteering with the American Lung Association and the TB Association. Laura received the Opal Fagle award at the American Lung Association of Iowa's annual meeting on Friday, November 18, 2005.

Volunteerism has been an integral part of Laura's life both personally and professionally. In addition to her efforts with the ALA, she is active with the High School Athletic and Music Booster programs. She also serves as the vice president for the "Dollars for Scholars" program at her son's school and on the Board of Directors for the Des Moines YMCA. When she has spare time, Laura loves to read, go horseback riding, hiking and motocross.
