Heissam Jebailey

Heissam Jebailey is a “new” American Lung Association volunteer. His involvement began when an American Lung Association staff member met him at a networking event and heard his story. When Heissam was only 22 years-old, he suffered a nearly fatal case of pneumonia. It was so severe that it filled both his lungs with fluid and required the removal of one of his lungs, which was permanently damaged. His doctor told him he was lucky to survive and that he would most likely never be able to run a marathon or even a 5K with just one lung.

However, Heissam set out to prove the world wrong by participating in our Fight for Air Run Walk. Heissam is innovative and brings a strategic business plan to his efforts with the American Lung Association. He brings creative ideas on promoting and raising funds for the organization. Not only did Heissam start a Run Walk team, but he has recruited 22 team members, who have collectively raised over $2,130 so far! He has also held a decal campaign in each of the Central Florida Menchies yogurt stores.

We are thrilled to have Heissam as an up and coming volunteer. He diligently serves on our Fight for Air Run Walk host committee, participates in all events Run Walk from commercial shoots to kick off events, and he is constantly talking up the Run Walk and the American Lung Association.

Heissam’s story has provided hope and inspiration to others and has set him apart from many of our volunteers. We are excited to run/walk with Heissam this year. As he accomplishes a personal milestone by completing a 5K, he is helping us accomplish ours of raising awareness and funds to support our programs and mission!
