Gary Halfhill

Gary Halfhill is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and a Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C) at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, and a volunteer for the American Lung Association of Ohio's asthma education programs. He educates outpatients about asthma, specifically how to manage the disease. Most recently, Gary has been instrumental as an Asthma 101 instructor in West Central Ohio through an IAQ Mini-Grant. The Asthma 101 program, a best practice in asthma, is an in-service program designed primarily for school personnel. Gary taught school personnel how to manage students' asthma episodes.

Gary has an extensive background in respiratory disease and is very passionate about asthma education. He came up with new ideas on how to extend our reach with the Asthma 101 program and also came up with incentives for the participants.

Thanks to Gary's initiatives, the American Lung Association of Ohio-Northwest Region has reached our 2004-2005 IAQ Mini-Grant goals.

In addition to his work in our asthma education programs, Gary also raises crucial funds for the American Lung Association of Ohio by participating in the Lima Asthma Walk. He and his family walked as part of the St. Rita's Medical Center's Walk Team. Gary even secured a pulmonologist to speak at this year's Lima Asthma Walk Kick-Off Luncheon.

The American Lung Association of Ohio is pleased to have Gary as a volunteer. He has helped us better to serve our constituents by sharing our asthma programs with the community in West Central Ohio.
