All eligible applications receive peer review for scientific merit by the American Lung Association Research Committees. Each application is assigned to two reviewers. The American Lung Association recruits accomplished and diverse peer reviewers and instructs them that their exclusive responsibility is to assess each proposal on its merits. Local Lung Associations are required to await the report on scientific merit following the national peer review process indicating the applicant is eligible or not eligible for funding.
Peer review meetings will take place in January and February. The American Lung Association will provide results of the peer review process to each applicant starting in April. Applicants will receive a letter from the American Lung Association with the final outcome and reviewer critiques will be available via proposalCENTRAL. Telephone or e-mail requests for results are not permitted.
