1. How long does the process take?

Your vehicle pick-up will be scheduled within two days of your donation request. The office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. ET. Staff will work with your schedule for pick-up, allowing a four hour time window.

2. What types of vehicles are accepted?

Automobiles, trucks, SUVs and vans are all accepted in virtually any condition. Other vehicles, such as boats, RVs, large trucks and farming equipment require an examination by the American Lung Association prior to being accepted.

3. How does the tax deduction work?

You can deduct the value of your vehicle only if you itemize deductions. A receipt indicating the vehicle sale price will be sent to you within 45 days after the pick-up of your vehicle. 4. What happens after I submit my donation?

A confirmation email from the American Lung Association will be sent so you know your donation request has been received.

5. What information do I need to provide for a donation?

Your name, phone number, address and email are all required. Provide your vehicle information (vehicle type, make, model) to schedule a tow pick-up.

6. Can I still donate a car if I don’t have a title?

We highly encourage any donation, with or without a title. A representative from our Title Solutions Department will assist in getting you a title if one is needed.

7. When will I receive a receipt for tax purposes?

You can expect a receipt within 45 days from the time we pick-up your vehicle.

8. Where will my vehicle go?

Most vehicles are sold at live auctions to licensed dealers, recyclers and exporters from around the world.

9. Where does your dollar go?

86 cents goes to program services, 10 cents to fundraising and 4 cents to administration.

The American Lung Association is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 corporation, so your donation may be tax deductible. Your vehicle will be sold by a licensed dealer with the proceeds benefiting the American Lung Association. We will work hard to maximize your eligible tax deduction.
