VDP FAQ
Are you eligible to donate?
You must have title to the vehicle and it must be unencumbered by a lien. Your vehicle does not have to run. However, it must be towable - all 4 tires must be inflated, there shouldn't be any major parts missing, and it must be in a location that it accessible to a tow truck.
How much will I receive?
New IRS regulations permit you to deduct the value received by the charity for the car you donate. We will send you notification of what that dollar amount is within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle.
Vehicles received by the American Lung Association are sold for the highest value possible to help fund our mission to prevent and control lung disease.
If you need additional advice on the tax law changes you should consult your tax advisor. We will provide the necessary paperwork to make filing fast and easy and be happy to answer general questions.
How long does it take?
You must first send us your title (or transferable registration, if you don't have a title) before we can pick up your car. Your car will be picked up 2-5 days after we receive your title. You will receive your tax receipt within 30 days after your car is sold.
What if I don't have a title and my registration isn't transferable?
If you don't have your title and your registration isn't transferable (your registration should say if it is transferable), you will need to request a duplicate title from your local Department of Motor Vehicles. This normally takes about 2 weeks, and costs about $20.
