New CDC Report Shows Smoking Rates in Wisconsin

(September 7, 2011)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a report revealing adult smoking rates in the United States are on the decline. While this is great news for public health and shows that our tobacco control efforts are working, there is still more our state can do to prevent children and teens from smoking and to encourage adults to quit.

The chart below shows smoking prevalence by state with Wisconsin coming in at 19.1% in 2010. This is .3% higher than 2009 but we will likely see this number decrease as SmokeFree Wisconsin encourages more people to quit. You can help lower this rate by becoming an E-Advocate and staying up-to-date on legislation, community events, and volunteer opportunities in Wisconsin.
