(October 7, 2012)

The chill in the October air didn’t dampen the spirits of over 850 people who came out to the Milwaukee Zoo to support those who struggle to breathe in the 2012 Fight for Air Walk.

Families, individuals and corporate teams joined the American Lung Association in Wisconsin in this year’s Walk to raise funds for research, education and advocacy efforts to fight lung disease and clean up the air we all breathe.  By far the organization’s most mission focused event, walkers came to support friends, patients, loved ones, and colleagues with asthma, COPD, lung cancer, and other lung diseases.  Some walked to celebrate success at quitting smoking, or to find the motivation to try.

Walkers also were able to obtain a free flu shot, courtesy of United Healthcare.

Based on current projections, the Lung is on target to achieve – and even exceed -- its goal of raising $60,000.

The top five individual fundraisers are Gary Steven ($2,025), Susan Dulka ($1,161), Kate Futoranski ($1,110), Dona Wininsky ($1,080) and Rebecca Hartmann ($865).

The top 10 fundraising teams are:

  1. Aurora Second Chance for Breath, $3,818
  2. Kate’s Peak Flow Patrol, $3,275
  3. Team AASC, $3,160
  4. Team Siewert, $2,732.05
  5. WAC/FAM Allies/CHW, $2,275
  6. Life Walkers, $2,025
  7. Team K&H Ponec, $1,890
  8. Football Player with Wings, $$1,725
  9. Fighting Irish, $1,590
  10. Team WINinsky, $1,395

The American Lung Association in Wisconsin would like to thank Gold Sponsor Roundy’s and Kindred Healthcare, our nationwide corporate team sponsor.   The Lung Association also thanks Community Team Chairs Dr. Gary and Rene Steven for their generous support and leadership.

Donations are still being received and can be made through November 9 at our Fight For Air Walk - Milwaukee website.
