Spark: Tobacco-Free Campus

Spark, a Wisconsin-wide, state-supported program, offers 18-24 year olds a platform and an opportunity to be an advocate and to educate peers, community leaders and decision makers that tobacco is a threat to the health of all individuals and particularly young adults. Spark’s mission is to ignite change by raising awareness and taking action. Spark is helping college campuses pass tobacco-free policies and educate campus communities that tobacco in all its forms is a threat.
Most tobacco users start before graduating college. Tobacco companies target young adults in the places they associate. New tobacco products that are flavored and inexpensive are an inviting combination for young adult users. The packaging on these products is attractive, colorful and similar to that of candy, which can mislead people to believe these products are safe.
Spark believes we can all work together to become the generation that reverses tobacco’s deadly trend.
Currently, all Wisconsin campus buildings are automatically included in the state smoke-free air law stating that indoor public spaces must be smoke- free. Spark advocates for 100% comprehensive tobacco-free policies for all campus premises.
