San Antonio Walk Honoree Channel Williams

This year’s Fight for Air Run/Walk in San Antonio honoree is 42-year-old Channel Williams, who has Stage 2B Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer.

Williams, a life-long non-smoker, began feeling sick following a trip to Costa Rica in June 2013. She is the owner of aMAZEn Boot Camp and up until that month, she was actively running her business, exercising, eating healthy and taking care of herself. After symptoms of shortness of breath, fatigue and weight loss, Williams began months of testing to figure out what was wrong.

On October 18, 2013, Williams was diagnosed with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Adenocarcinoma  and on November 1, 2013 half of her left lung was removed.

“The news was beyond shocking, and the survival rates for lung cancer were even more shocking,” said Williams. “For a person who has never smoked and is healthy and young, how can this happen?”

Williams was able to start her chemotherapy treatment on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Her treatment will consist of weekly treatments for 16 weeks.

“I was shocked to find out that lung cancer is the single deadliest cancer, killing even more women than breast and ovarian cancer,” said Williams. “My hope is that bringing awareness to Lung Cancer will aid in people being diagnosed sooner than later, and that research will aid in saving as many lives as possible.”

Her ultimate goal is to have between 200 – 250 people signed up to her team but with Channel and knowing how competitive she is, she might even exceed this lofty goal.
