Application materials for the American Lung Association’s Nationwide Awards and Grants Research Program are available online at proposalCentral and can be accessed at https://proposalcentral.altum.com.

The goal of the Awards and Grants Program is to stimulate cutting edge research that will reduce the burden of lung diseases, including asthma, COPD and lung cancer, on patients and their families. The application deadline is October 20, 2011.

“Our mission at the American Lung Association is to save lives by preventing lung disease and improving lung health,” said Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest. “Funding research focused on lung disease through our Nationwide Awards and Grants Program is absolutely vital to fulfilling our important mission. These awards help ensure that lung disease research is intensified so that we can not only alleviate the pain of those who suffer from lung disease, but find better treatments and cures.”

The majority of the awards granted by the Lung Association support trainees and/or junior investigators early in their careers. This helps ensure long-term commitments to lung disease research and helps to maintain an adequate supply of scientists dedicated specifically to lung disease.
