Connie Moore

Connie Moore from Pittsford, New York, has been selected as our Volunteer in the Spotlight because of her loyalty and devotion to our mission.  Connie has served the American Lung Association in New York as a volunteer and as Past Chair of our annual walk in Rochester.

Connie, an asthmatic, became involved in the Lung Association in 2006 because her oldest daughter, Sarah, was diagnosed with asthma. Connie became all too familiar with what it meant to have a child unable to breathe, and has since devoted the majority of her volunteer work to raising awareness and funds for the American Lung Association in New York.

After Connie participated in our walk in 2006, she became involved on the planning committee for the event in an attempt to increase participation and revenue raised.  She succeeded by putting in a lot of hard work and effort. Connie did letter writing campaigns to all of her friends and family, children’s teachers, and secured corporate sponsorships in support of the event. Connie was also successful in getting additional family teams to join, honoring their own children with asthma. Connie introduced her network to the work of the Lung Association and, in doing so, helped secure additional volunteers, sponsors, and donors.

Connie became chair of the walk in 2008 and with her leadership, the Lung Association  was able to raise over $125,000 that year in support of those with asthma and other lung diseases.  The year prior, Connie and her daughter created a fundraiser to help raise additional money for the Lung Association and bring attention to the organization.

The American Lung Association Friends and Family Day at Stokoe Farms was created in honor of Sarah and her struggles with asthma.  This gave the Lung Association an opportunity to introduce mission work to other families who also have children with asthma. During the four years that Connie has overseen this event, the attendance has more than doubled each year.

According to Jamie Anderson, Development Director for Individual and Planned Giving, “Connie exudes all qualities that non profits need for their volunteers, and we are very lucky to have her involved in our organization’s activities.  Since 2006, Connie has personally raised over $38,000 in support of the American Lung Association in New York.”
