According to the American Lung Association, St. Lawrence County continues to have some of the cleanest air in the country.

The association has released its 2010 report listing air quality for cities and counties across the country based on the amount of ozone and particulate matter in the air.

Along with Onondaga County, St. Lawrence was listed in the top 25 cleanest counties in country for short-term particulate matter. It ranked 16th for cleanest counties in the country for year-round particulate matter. Essex County was the only other New York county to make the list. It ranked seventh.

The report did not have information on ozone in St. Lawrence County, but Jefferson County was given a failing grade, with 11 "code orange" days. That number is an improvement from last year, when the county had 17 "code orange" days and one "code red" day.
