Dear NY COPD Summit Attendees,

On behalf of the NY COPD Coalition, the American Lung Association in New York and the COPD Foundation, we would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks for your participation in the NY COPD Summit on June 11, 2010.  Nearly 100 stakeholders in the NY COPD Community came together to learn, network and strategize on how to combat the burden of COPD.  With your active participation we were able to generate a strong set of recommendations to be incorporated into a comprehensive NY COPD Action Plan.  To access a complete set of slides presented at the Summit as well as the agenda and final list of participants please use the link below or click on "set of slides."

The message from the speakers and all of the participants was clear; we need to act now to combat the burden that COPD is placing on patients and families, the healthcare system and the economy.  You heard about the basics of COPD disease mechanisms, the multiple co-morbidities associated with COPD that can make dealing with the disease even harder, the benefits of and challenges to ensuring access to pulmonary rehabilitation, how COPD can be treated in the home, employer and economic impacts of COPD and the latest in COPD public policy.  All of the messages in these presentations were reflected in the powerful stories you heard from three empowered COPD patients who reinforced the urgency with which we must act. 

We will be in contact with you in the near future as we work to finalize the NY COPD Action Plan.  From there, we will work together to ensure that the provisions of the Action Plan are implemented in New York.  We hope you will join with the NY COPD Coalition to help increase the impact we all can have on COPD in NY.  If you didn't get a chance to submit the membership form at the Summit we have included it the final book of slides.  Take a few moments to fill out the form and indicate your area of expertise as well as how you would like to become involved.  This will help us as we move forward to target initiatives and draw on the expertise of those who are willing to volunteer in various ways.
