What do you notice when you and your children walk up to the cash register in a convenience store? Have you ever stopped to think of the powerful messages that surround you as you pay for your items? The tobacco industry has, and they’ve moved in on this fairly unregulated area, called the point of sale, to bait both consumers and store owners.

The Lethal Lure Campaign was designed as a tool to educate elected officials and the general public about the many tactics the tobacco industry uses to target youth and adults at the point of sale.  This includes intense marketing and advertising, price promotions and discounts, product placement and location of product sales (near schools, parks, playgrounds and in pharmacies).

The Advocates Tackle Box contains resources that give the issue background, the related public health concerns and lists some regulatory options for communities to address the impact of tobacco at the point of sale.
