Jesse McLearn-Montz

Jesse McLearn-Montz became involved with the American Lung Association in Iowa in 2009 when his family moved to Iowa from Illinois. The McLearn-Montz family has a very personal connection to lung disease. Amanda, Jesse’s sister, had 4 lung collapses before the age of 21. Amanda also has asthma and is a carrier for alpha-one antitrypsin deficiency – a hereditary condition which may result in serious lung disease in adults and/or liver disease in infants, children and adults. Jesse’s mom, Brenda, became involved as a volunteer planning the Fight for Air Walk, and Jesse would attend committee meetings with her at the American Lung Association office.

In honor of his sister, Jesse became inspired to advocate for the American Lung Association by participating in the Fight for Air Walk and the Fight for Air Climb. Jesse has participated in both the Fight for Air Walk and the Fight for Air Climb every year since 2010, and has raised nearly $3,700…all before graduating high school! Jesse says that his involvement with the American Lung Association has been a great way to meet new people and help the community. He looks forward to participating in more events in the future!
