Iowa Respiratiory Rally A Success!

The American Lung Association in Iowa is pleased to announce the success of the first Respiratory Rally, held Wednesday, May 25th at the West Des Moines Marriott.

* Over 50 patients, caregivers, volunteers and exhibitors participated in the event

* Lieutenant Governor, Kim Reynolds addressed the audience on the importance of the prevention and treatment of COPD and vowed to support the COPD Coalition on future endeavors

* Presentations were on:

     o Current and Future Treatments for Pulmonary Patients-presented by Dr. Kim Baker from the University of Iowa

     o Attitude and Motivation-presented by Mike McBride, COPD patient and Boston Marathon participant

     o Utilizing Pulmonary Rehab-presented by Josh Stolpe, Exercise Physiologist from Mercy Medical Center

     o Playing the Harmonica to Improve Lung Function-led by Curry Harter, Harmonica Instructor

     o Medication Adherence-presented by Geoff Wall from Iowa Methodist and Drake University

     o COPD and Nutrition-from Urbandale Hy-Vee Dietitian, Heather Illg

     o Stages of Lung Cancer and Seasons of Survivorship-presented by Carissa Thompson from John Stoddard Cancer Center

* Volunteers and committee members from across the state contributed to the success of the event
