New CDC Report Shows Declining Smoking Rates in Indiana
(September 7, 2011)—
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a report revealing adult smoking rates in the United States are on the decline. While this is great news for public health and shows our tobacco control efforts are working, there is still more our state can do to prevent children and teens from smoking and to encourage adults to quit.
Passing a state-wide smoking ban is just one step Indiana can take to continue to reduce smoking rates and improve public health.
The chart below shows smoking prevalence by state and, as you can see, Indiana has one of the highest rates at 21.2% in 2010. You can help by becoming an E-Advocate and stay up-to-date on legislation, community events, and volunteer opportunities to promote a 100% smoke-free Indiana.
