Evening of Promise a Resounding Success

(October 18, 2012)

Indianapolis, IN – The American Lung Association in Indiana’s Evening of Promise Gala was held this past weekend at the Marriott Downtown in Indianapolis.  The event, which was the Lung Association’s second annual fundraising gala, was attended by 400 guests and raised in excess of $286,000 to support the mission of improving lung heath and preventing lung disease.

imageThe evening’s honorees were Legacy Award winners, Sidney and Lois Eskanazi, who recently made a $40 million gift to build the Sidney & Lois Eskanazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Lois is a lung cancer survivor and the financial gift was the largest endowment to a public healthcare facility in the United States.

“We were so pleased to be able to shine a spotlight on lung cancer and honor the Eskanazis for their generosity,” said Alison Martin, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Indiana. “The funds raised through the work of our dedicated committee chairs and the patronage of our sponsors and guests will be used to make an impact in the lives of those impacted by lung disease. We’re incredibly grateful for their support.”

The evening’s presenting sponsor was St. Vincent Health. Ken and Cindy Stella, with Steve and Elaine Stitle, were the event co-chairs. Cindy Stella is also a lung cancer survivor.

The evening’s activities included live music, dancing, a live and silent auction, and personal stories were shared by Hoosiers affected by lung cancer.
