The first annual Saggy Bottom 5K and Golden Rib Cook-off was held on October 1, 2011 in downtown Palmyra, IL and raised a net of $7,500 to benefit the American Lung Association in Illinois.  The Saggy Bottom 5K hosted over 150 runners  of all ages and featured fun “pit stops” including doughnuts and Cheetos along the race route.

The Golden Rib Cook-off drew 20 local cookers to the competition and provided the evening meal for hundreds who came and enjoyed the food, music and beverages throughout downtown.  The event committee, pictured with American Lung Association in Illinois Special Events Manager Kelsey Dyckman, presented a check totaling $7,500 from the event proceeds to the American Lung Association in Illinois.

“When we first started talking about this we all decided that raising a couple thousand this first year would be considered a success for us, when we realized we were going to give $7,500 to the American Lung Association I was floored," said Todd Downs, event committee member. "We were excited to raise this much money for a great organization and see the entire community support this event.”

Thank you to the Saggy Bottom 5K and Rib Cook-off event committee for selecting the American Lung Association in Illinois as your charity and for your tremendous support. We look forward to working with you in the future and appreciate your support of our Fight for Air!
