Richard Gray, Jr.

Fight For Air Climb Participant

We're proud to put firefighter Richard Gray, Jr in the spotlight for his amazing Fight For Air Climb Fundraising!

On Sunday, February 13th, Richard will be climbing Oakbrook Terrace Tower in honor of his dad.  As a career firefighter for 20 years and long-time smoker, years of smoke inhalation caused considerable damage to Richard's dad's lungs.   In September of 2010, Richard's father had a successful right lung transplant and is experiencing a new healthy and smoke-free life.

In December, Richard noticed the Fight for Air Climb poster at his firehouse and expressed interest in the event. He formed a team of firefighters from his department, along with a few others from around the area, and will be participating in the Climb this Sunday.

What's remarkable about Richard and his team isn't just the reason for their climb, but also the amazing results of their fundraising efforts.  His team, North Riverside Local 2714, has raised over $3,500 (and counting!) and Richard alone has raised more than $2,000 of those dollars.  As of 2/10/11 Richard is our Top Fundraiser for 2011 and the North Riverside Local 2714 Team is battling it out for first place with the Addison Police team.  All their fundraising dollars will support the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago's mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease and will go toward research, education, and advocacy initiatives.

We're so thankful to have Richard and the North Riverside Local 2714 as participants in our climb and appreciate their help in the Fight For Air!
