Betsy Cammarata

Fight For Air Ride Top Fundraiser

We’re excited to recognize Betsy Cammarata for her continued support and exceptional fundraising for the American Lung Association in Illinois-Greater Chicago.

Betsy joined the Fight For Air Ride (formerly know as the Lake Tour Bike Trek) in 2008 after her mom passed away from lung cancer.  For the past four years, her efforts have helped raise awareness about lung cancer in nonsmokers and raised over $48,000 for lung cancer research.

“We ride for Mom, and for all those who have struggled and still struggle with lung diseases, including asthma, COPD, cancer, and Alpha-1,” Betsy says on her personal fundraising page for the Ride. “We need to defeat to these diseases, somehow, and someday soon.”

Betsy is the Captain of Team Barbie, the top fundraisers for the 2011 Ride. The team goal was set at $13,500, but Betsy’s creative fundraising, dedicated team and unrelenting spirit brought their final total to just over $15,000 this year alone.  Betsy's team hosts events throughout the year, like a Mother Daughter luncheon and a Super Bowl Squares party, to raise awareness about their ride and to have fun while fundraising!

It is dedicated and inspiring participants like Betsy that keep the American Lung Association moving forward to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.  We appreciate all your hard work, Betsy, and thank you for volunteering with us!
