New CDC Report Shows Declining Smoking Rates in Illinois

(September 7, 2011)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a report revealing adult smoking rates in the United States are on the decline. While this is great news for public health and shows that our tobacco control efforts are working, there is still more our state can do to prevent children and teens from smoking and to encourage adults to quit.

The chart below shows smoking prevalence by state with Illinois coming in at 16.9% in 2010. You can help lower this rate by becoming an E-Advocate and staying up-to-date on legislation, community events, and volunteer opportunities in Illinois.
