Cyclists Fight for Lung Disease Research Funding in Multiday Ride

Hundreds bike from Crystal Lake to Lake Geneva to support research, education and advocacy

CHICAGO (June 16, 2014)

Nearly 150 cyclists hit the pavement this past weekend (June 13-15) through northern Illinois’ scenic farmlands and Wisconsin’s rolling hills for up to 150 miles as part of the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago’s 2014 Fight for Air Ride.

Cyclists of all levels on all types of bikes rode up to three days for a personal achievement, a new cycling experience, to honor a loved one affected by lung disease or simply to raise research funding for the nation’s number one cancer killer – lung cancer.

At this writing, the Lung Association reports that fundraising numbers shattered this year’s goal by $15,000, reaching a total of more than $165,000 (and counting). This number is more than $40,000 larger than the funds raised in 2013. These totals will make a big difference in the fight for healthy air and healthy lungs as ninety cents of every dollar raised goes directly towards education, research and advocacy.

As always, none of this is possible without the amazing fundraising by all participants and teams. Some of featured teams and individuals raised thousands of dollars. The top three teams and top five individual fundraisers are highlighted below.

  • Nations Pizza Pedalers: $15,846
  • Elmhurst Bicycle Club: $13,152
