Chicago EPA Hearings – Please Support Carbon Pollution Standards

(May 29, 2012)

On May 23, American Lung Association advocates testified before the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Chicago to support the proposed carbon pollution standards for new power plants.

Scientists warn that the buildup of carbon pollution will create warmer temperatures, which may increase the risk of dangerous smog levels. Any increases in smog will mean more childhood asthma attacks and complications for those with lung disease.

That's why the U.S. EPA proposed the first ever national carbon pollution standards for new power plants—and they're still seeking public comments before deciding to take action.

Last week, the EPA heard from a handful of American Lung Association advocates and now they need to hear your support of these proposed standards. The EPA must adopt the strongest possible safeguards to improve air quality and protect public health. Please send in your comments to the EPA now.

The cleanup of carbon pollution from power plants is long overdue. EPA must hear strong support from you to adopt the strongest air pollution safeguards and protect our health. Our children and other vulnerable individuals depend on EPA to protect them from air pollution emitted by power plants, including carbon pollution.
