Marketing and Communications Intern
Responsibilities:
To work with American Lung Association staff to implement internal and external communications, marketing, and special events across our seven-state region.
Reports To:
Communications Manager
Position Goals and Responsibilities:
- Gain a basic understanding of the American Lung Association & nonprofit operations
- Become knowledgeable of current strategic plan
- Understand branding guidelines and implementation
- Become knowledgeable about Greater Chicago mission-driven programs and Signature events
- Participate in staff meetings and webinar learning opportunities
- Create portfolio upon completion of internship
Media Relations:
- Work to identify and pitch American Lung Association news and messages to the media
- Identify and cultivate human interest stories and current event tie-ins
- Assist in the management of media contacts across region
- Draft press releases, media alerts, Letters to the Editor and talking points
Maintain Online Presence:
- Contribute to the writing and design of web content
- Assist with social media maintenance and campaigns
- Create e-newsletter content
Marketing:
- Create and implement “Best Practices” guidelines for branding, various lung health campaigns, and social media
Special Events:
- Volunteer at weekend special events during internship period when applicable.
Part-time, Unpaid Position:
Flexible Schedule, Minimum 12 hours/week
Available to attend Fight for Air Climb events February 11th-12th and March 10th-11th
College Credit dependent on institution

Qualifications:
- Non-smoker
- Strong writing skills
- Comfortable speaking to media, patients, volunteers, and sponsors
