Responsibilities:

Primary Job Function:

To research potential corporate and foundation funders, maintain grants database, and develop initial contacts and LOIs with potential funders.

Reports to:

The Grants Intern will work closely with the Grants Manager to identify potential corporate and private foundation partners in select markets in our seven states. Tasks include, but are not limited to: Corporate and foundation research; initial communication to prospects to gauge interest in American Lung Association mission and/or further exploration with development team and local staff; initial letter of intent submissions and assistance with grant submissions.

  • Extensive researching and reviewing grant opportunities from corporate and private foundation sources in selected markets in Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota.
  • Identify potential contacts with viable corporate and foundation prospects as potential meetings for local staff.
  • Initial submission of letters of intent to qualified corporations and/or foundations.
  • Assistance in maintaining tracking and filing systems for ALAUM Grant Development.
  • Assistance in submitting prepared grant proposals.
  • Demonstrating an understanding and commitment to the organization and its mission.

Part-Time, Unpaid Position:

Flexible Schedule, 12-15 hours a week minimum
Available to attend Fight for Air Climb events February 11-12 and March 10-11
College Credit dependent on institution

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience researching funding opportunities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Internet applications
  • Experience with health organizations is a plus
  • Familiarity with grant development is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within tight timeframes
