During the 2009 revision of the Colorado State Asthma Plan stakeholders determined that the following goals reflect the current landscape of asthma prevalence in Colorado.  The goals, and their strategies, point to the need for collaboration.

Health-Care Provider Best Practices
Goal: Health-care providers in Colorado will correctly identify and manage asthma following the "Expert Panel Report 3 - Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma" developed by the National Asthma Education Prevention Program.


Improved Access to Health Care
Goal: Improve access to appropriate health care for all people diagnosed with asthma in Colorado.


Environmental and Occupational Health
Goal: Reduce asthma mortality and morbidity in Colorado through strategies that improve indoor and outdoor air quality and occupational environments.


School Health and Child Care
Goal: Children and youth with asthma, their families and individuals working with children/youth in Colorado will receive safe and effective asthma management services, tools and education.


Public Education and Awareness
Goal: Increase public awareness regarding asthma prevalence rate, the impact of asthma in Colorado, and how to effectively manage this chronic disease, emphasizing culturally diverse and regional and rural areas of the state.
