j_rodgersJohn A. Rodgers, Chair, Board of Directors

Mr. Rodgers is currently Vice President for Investments at UBS Financial Services and serves as an elected trustee of the Kern Community College District. He was previously elected to serve on the Bakersfield City School Board of Education, building on his training and experience as a teacher and educator. In addition to volunteer leadership of the American Lung Association in Kern County, he has volunteered with the Kern County Museum Foundation, along with many other community organizations.

Ms. Ramos, a life-long resident of Burbank, recently concluded eight years of service as an elected official, including two terms as mayor of Burbank. She is Vice President of Geosystemns Inc., which provides consulting services in geotechnical, environmental and land development. She volunteers for the American Lung Association, Family Promise of the East San Fernando Valley, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles-San Fernando Region and is a member of Woodbury University President's Advisory Council.



JHoward_ThumbJames T. Howard, Vice Chair, Board of Directors

Mr. Howard recently retired from the California Department of Public Health after a 36-year career in public service. He is a long-time volunteer with the American Lung Association and has served on and/or chaired numerous committees, task forces, and working groups. He has served at the National level on the American Lung Association Council and Board and was a Past Chair of the American Lung Association in California Board.

Ms. Calhoun is the Managing Director for CBIZ MHM, LLC, specializing in business management, business consulting, tax, and financial planning for small to medium sized businesses and high net worth individuals. Ms. Calhoun is involved in various community organizations, specifically on philanthropy for disadvantaged women and children. She sits in the Advisory Board for Dress for Success as well as a woman-centric networking organization called the Broads Circle. She also is a Board Member for both the Urban Compass, an after school program for underprivileged youth, and Minnie House, a drug and alcohol abuse center.

Ms. Griffin is a commercial real estate broker and property manager who has volunteered with the American Lung Association in California in both the Bay Area and in Sacramento. She helped secure the sites for the Climb events in San Francisco and Sacramento.

Mr. Legg is an Audit Partner at Grant Thornton in San Francisco with more than 19 years of public accounting experience. He has extensive experience in serving commercial enterprises, both private and public in the consumer products and technology industries. Mr. Legg also is an active supporter of Grant Thornton's Greater Bay Area office community leadership team, a group dedicated to giving back to the community by partnering with various local not-for-profit organizations.


AGraboff_ThumbAndrea Graboff

Ms. Graboff has been a licensed Physical Therapist in the state of California since 1975. Since 2000, she worked at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center with patients who have acute medical conditions, assessing the functional status of patients, developing treatment plans and establishing goals. An involved and active parent, she has volunteered with PTA and PTSA. Her volunteer role in the American Lung Association in California began in 1999 as a co-chair of the Kite Festival held by the Orange County office. She served on the local Leadership Board in 2000, and held a term on the National Assembly in 2009.

Ms. Ashby is a Senior Public Information Specialist for the South Coast Air Quality Management District, working closely with representatives from government, business, environmental, and health organizations to improve air quality and protect the public's health. She contributes many hours each year to the Orange County office of the American Lung Association in California, where she has served on the volunteer leadership board since 2004. She also regularly participates in environmental preservation and restoration efforts near her home in Newport Beach, and with the Big Sisters of Orange County.

Dr. Clark, a long-time advocate for the environment and renewable energy, is an internationally recognized author, lecturer, and advisor on sustainable communities. Dr. Clark was a contributing scientist who co-author, Chapter #2, Finance and Economics, co-editor, Chapter #3, Legal and Contracts and Chair of the Expert Panel in Nepal to the Third Report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel Climate Change (UNIPCC) which won the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2007. Dr. Clark also is the founder of Clark Strategic Partners (CSP), an environmental and renewable energy consulting firm that guides, advices, and implements clients worldwide on sustainable development for communities ranging from schools, colleges and universities to small and large cities.

Ms. Cole has been a nurse in the Public Health sector for more than 29 years. Presently, she is the Director of Disease Control/TB Controller for the Riverside County Department of Public Health. She has volunteered with the American Lung Association for more than 15 years at the local and state level. She is the Immediate Past President of the California TB Controllers Association. In addition, she serves on the faculty of the Francis J. Curry National TB Center and is a guest lecturer at Loma Linda University School of Nursing. 




d_cookeDavid Tom Cooke, MD

Dr. Cooke is an Assistant Professor of Thoracic Surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center specializing in general thoracic surgery. His research interests include clinical studies on oncologic trials, surgical outcomes, and surgical education. Dr. Cooke is actively involved in student mentoring at UC Davis as well as various community organizations in the Sacramento area. Dr. Cooke has firsthand knowledge of the air quality problems in our state because aside from being a thoracic surgeon with patients suffering from lung disease, he suffered from childhood asthma and his father is battling adult onset asthma.

 
ADevereaux_ThumbAsha Devereaux, MD, MPH

Dr. Devereaux served eleven years in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Commander, including service on the Navy Surgeon Gneral's panel for Tobacco Cessation, and Head of Medicine at Beaufort Naval Hospital and aboard the USNS Mercy. Now in private practice, she has volunteered with the California Thoracic Society since 1997, is the ex-officio Chairman of the Disaster Response Network of the American College of Chest Physicians, and is the lead physician advisor to the San Diego Medical Reserve Corps.



RDonaldson_ThumbRichard Donaldson, Ph.D., RCP

Dr. Donaldson owns RMD Medical Consultants in San Diego. His expertise includes research, sleep disorders, finance and field services. Dr. Donaldson's personal interest in lung disease stems from having lost his parents to the effects of lung disease and his involvement in treating patients with lung disease for over 40 years. He served as a representative delegate on the American Lung Association's National Council from 1994-2003, and has also served on a task force for the licensing of sleep technologists for the Respiratory Care Board, State of California.

Ms. Garcia is a Partner in the San Francisco law office of Berry Appleman & Leiden specializing in employment-based and family-based immigration. She represents multinational corporations in a wide range of industries including technology, communication, financial services, media and nursing. Ms. Garcia also is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).

Mr. Hartounian is the Business Development Manager for the Western Region at Clean Energy, where he works closely with private fleets to grow the natural gas vehicle industry. He focuses on developing long-term agreements with fleets that uses natural gas medium-and heavy-duty trucks. Mr. Hartounian is a member of the Orange County Leadership Council and also serves on the Board for the Long Beach Junior Chamber.

Dr. Hata is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and practices dentistry in the Rockridge area of Oakland. He is a volunteer leader in community, regional, and national non-profits that address disability and civil rights issues, including the American Lung Association.

Mr. Hooson is the Senior Planner for the San Francisco International Airport where he initiated and manages the Clean Vehicle Policy that is responsible for dramatic emissions reductions from the airport’s ground transportation services.  Mr. Hooson has a strong interest in reforming land use and transportation planning, and travels primarily by transit and bicycle. He also helped lead the campaign to finance frequent effective rail passenger service in California, initiating the Capitol Corridor and Los Angeles Metrolink commuter rail systems.

Mr. Johnson is the Assistant Director for Corporate Planning at biopharmaceutical company MediciNova. He specializes in management, finance, strategy, communications, and development. In 2007, Mr. Johnson volunteered in the San Diego office of the American Lung Association in California as a Leadership Board Member, and served as Chairman of the Board in 2009.

Mr. Madsen has volunteered with the American Lung Association in California since 1996, beginning with the Air Quality Committee in San Bernardino, where he continues to serve as Chair of the local Leadership Board. Mr. Madsen is a Senior Public Information Specialist with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, specializing in government and community relations, and legislation. He was a field representative in California State Senate and a newspaper editor/reporter.

Ms. Morrow has worked in the California air-pollution control sector since 1984. She is an Air Quality manager in Fresno for the Southern California Gas Company and San Diego Gas & Electric Company, providing advocacy and technical assistance on pollution control for the company and to the local customer. She has worked as a permit engineer for the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District and as a compliance specialist at an international consulting and engineering firm. She also worked for five years at the Council of Fresno County Governments on Transportation Clean Air Act conformity and traffic modeling.

Trisha Murakawa is principal of Murakawa Communications, a strategic communications and public affairs firm based in Redondo Beach, and is Immediate Past Chair of the American Lung Association in California. She has more than 20 years of experience in strategic communications, public affairs and project management with particular expertise in construction mitigation and public participation for major public works projects and campaign management and fundraising for issues and candidates for public office. She serves as member of the Redondo Beach Budget and Finance Commission, and is a member of the Nationwide Assembly of the American Lung Association.

Mr. O'Kane is the Chief Executive Officer at the Council of Community Clinics, a non-profit organization supporting 17 community clinics and health centers offering access to quality health care in San Diego and Imperial counties. Mr. O'Kane is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Council of Community Clinics and its two subsidiaries, the Community Clinics Health Network and Council Connections. Community Clinics Health Network provides member clinics with disease and quality management and managed care contracting services as well as clinic information technology support services. Council Connections is a group purchasing organization for community health and non-profit organizations that helps provide significant savings by leveraging its collective volume to obtain discounts on products and services. In addition to his work with the American Lung Association, he also is a board member of his local YMCA.

Mr. Pogue is the National Director for Sustainability & Institutional Development at CB Richard Ellis where he manages the development, introduction, and implementation of sustainable practices and policies across the Americas. He is responsible for the introduction of CBRE's Sensible Sustainability program, which includes the endorsement of the EPA Energy Star® program.

Dr. Sawyer is the Class of 1935 Professor of Energy Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley. He also is a Partner at Sawyer Associates, a consulting company dealing with air pollution and higher education policy. Dr. Sawyer has worked on air pollution and energy issues at the international, national, state, and local level. He served as Chair of the California Air Resources Board from 2005-2007. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering.

Ms. Talleda is the Vice President in Corporate Services and is the West Coast lead of Hill & Knowlton's Diversity Communications Group, an international public relations firm. She specializes in community outreach and social marketing, and has a particular expertise in consumer education, media outreach, and grassroots campaigns. Ms. Talleda also is a supporter of the 9-11 HelpAmerica Foundation, which provides financial assistance to wounded veterans and their families through media relations and special event support.

Ms. VandenBosch is the CEO for San Francisco-based advertising agency Publicis and Hal Riney. Her integrated marketing services background led to roles on global marketing teams for Nissan, Infiniti, Sony and Pioneer, and her expertise ranges from automotive to packaged goods, consumer electronics to financial services, dot-coms to fashion. Ms. VandenBosch works with a number of universities as well as the American Association of Advertising Agencies on integrated marketing education programs, and is a frequent speaker on the influence of technology on culture and politics.
