The American Lung Association in California has offices throughout the state, which provide programs and services, promote local lung health issues, and coordinate fundraising efforts. We are the only organization in California that helps people and communities improve lung health while working to create public policies that attack the causes of lung disease.

Job Summary:

This important position reporting to the Executive Director manages a high profile and important large scale Bay Area event for the organization, leads corporate partnership building, and works to gain support for the event and organization as a whole. In addition this position manages a small portfolio of major donors, building long term relationships and partnerships that benefit the organization and its mission.

This important position is for immediate hire, and is a strong match for exceptionally motivated development managers currently in the nonprofit sector, or experienced corporate sales and marketing professionals with social benefit aspirations seeking to gain permanent employment in the nonprofit sector.

Primary Relationships:

  1. Direct Supervisor: Greater Bay Area Executive Director
  2. Indirect Reporting Relationship(s): Senior Director of Development, Strategic Cause; President and CEO; VP of Field Development
  3. Internal Working Relationships: Works with other development staff throughout the state.
  4. External Working Relationships: Works with volunteer committees, community leaders.

Essential Functions:

  • Fundraising through effective event participant management, corporate solicitation, and recruitment of leadership volunteers.
  • Executes proven fundraising techniques and strategies to raise funds through event team recruitment and retention, corporate sponsor solicitation, and recruiting volunteers who contribute effectively to raising funds.
  • Manages a portfolio of corporate, organizational, and individual donor accounts, with a primary objective of growing their financial support.
  • Grows special event revenue by using targeted, relationship building strategies in conjunction with a personalized recruitment process to gain (1) effective team recruitment, retention, and motivation, (2) corporate sponsorships and partnerships, and (3) maintains, cultivates, and manages volunteer committees to help secure corporate sponsorships and support development and event initiatives.
  • Secures, maintains and cultivates corporate sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Utilizes creative market building strategies such as cold calling, networking, and the ability to leverage volunteers’ connections and spheres of influence to prospect, cultivate, and manage new accounts.
  • Demonstrates the persistence and professionalism necessary to ‘close a sale’ and create new successful partnerships.
  • Utilizes effective and modern fundraising principles and techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of achieving fundraising results and or comparable creating corporate partnerships in the for-profit sector.
  • Experience with nonprofit special events and passionate about team fundraising.
  • High-energy, positive, “can-do” attitude with commitment to teamwork, flexibility and initiative.
  • Willing to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Willing to travel and have access to an automobile.
  • Experience with MS Office.
  • Experience with online fundraising platform, especially Convio a plus.
  • Employs effective and exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates strong presentation skills, oral, written and persuasive.
  • BA/BS degree preferred.
