Program Manager: Tobacco Control Programs

The program manager will plan, implement, and evaluate tobacco control programs based on best practices as outlined in the Center for Tobacco Prevention and Control grant and workplan. Activities included: building capacity for support of tobacco control initiatives in North Dakota with a focus on keeping the current smoke free law strong, and educating on e-cigarettes, identifying and engaging partner organizations, and promoting cessation services.


  • Develops and manages work plans for activities
  • Facilitate the building and development of partners and coalitions
  • Tracking and reporting duties for quarterly reports and evaluation purposes
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to community groups
  • Communicate and coordinate with public health partners in each region
  • Attend and actively participate in local and regional meetings related to the ALAND
  • Advocacy on behalf of ALAND
  • Recruit leadership board members and coordinate local leadership board meetings
  • General office duties including mail, deposits, and telephone


The ideal candidate will have experience in grassroots organizing as well as an understanding of tobacco control policy and advocacy

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in community organizing
  • Experience in non-profit organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with diverse audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, including personal, written and public speaking
  • Proficient in basic computer skills specifically word processing and use of the internet
  • Works effectively as a team leader and coalition member

Other Requirements

  • Hold valid driver’s license and carry and maintain private automobile insurance
  • Abstain from use of tobacco in any form
  • Necessary to work evenings and weekends on an as needed basis
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs (event materials)

  • Pay rate: based on experience $38,000 - $44,000
  • Position is grant funded through June 2014
