Freedom From Smoking Online® is a free program that uses the same method as the seven-week clinic, with one difference: it lets you quit at your own pace by logging on to the program wherever and whenever you choose. Freedom From Smoking Online® uses a workbook with seven modules to guide you through the process – much like the seven-week clinic. A message board provides an online support group where you can share your struggles and successes, as well as get support from others who know what you are going through.  

 

Freedom From Smoking® Facilitator Training

Freedom From Smoking Facilitator® Training is a required course for those who intend to assist smokers who want to quit through the Freedom From Smoking® program. Participants are trained to lead our seven-week Freedom From Smoking® program, and those who successfully complete the two-day training will be certified by the American Lung Association.  

The training helps future facilitators understand the quitting process, as well as the concepts, philosophy, materials, and techniques that are used in the Freedom From Smoking® program.

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the characteristics of effective group leadership
  • Facilitate each Freedom From Smoking® module
  • Implement a variety of problem solving techniques, and 
  • Define key levels of communication skills

Why Use Freedom From Smoking

Since it was first introduced almost 30 years ago, the American Lung Association's Freedom From Smoking® program as helped over a million Americans end their addiction to nicotine and begin new smokefree lives.  Freedom From Smoking® was ranked the most effective smoking cessation program in a study by Fordham University Graduate School of Business.

Freedom From Smoking® is based on the proven addiction and behavior change models. The program offers a structured, systematic approach to quitting.  It has a positive focus, with an emphasis on the benefits of better health.  Because no single cessation technique is effective for all smokers, the program includes a comprehensive variety of evidence-based cessation techniques.
