Elms College Nursing Program

For four years, the Elms College Nursing Program has been involved in the Asthma Disparities Initiative in Springfield. This partnership was formed to facilitate the delivery of Open Airways Programs (OAS) to local schools and has evolved into a true collaborative effort.  Schools receive asthma education for students with asthma and the nursing students receive credit for this community experience, gain health education experience and most of all gain a sense of self satisfaction in giving back to the community. The volunteers are an invaluable asset to the Lung Association because without their commitment to OAS they would not be able to provide the five Springfield-area programs.
