The Conley Family

The Conley family began their journey with the American Lung Association of New England when they participated in a press conference launching the Maine Healthy Air Campaign. The family shared their story about their son Jake’s struggle with asthma and how important clean air is to them. They traveled to Washington, D.C with the ALANE advocacy team to attend the 2011 ALA Advocacy Days. While in Washington they met with Maine’s Congressional Delegation to urge them not to weaken the Clean Air Act or prevent the EPA from doing its job.

The Conley family has gone beyond their personal advocacy experience. Lisa is now facilitating the integration of other families, with similar stories, in order to protect the Clean Air Act.

They have shared their story with nearly 2000 Trek across Maine participants, giving them a “face” for why they ride and raise money for ALA. The trekkers being empowered by their story then signed postcards asking their Senators to protect the Clean Air Act.

Mark, Lisa and Jake are a living example of our mission turned into action.
