Deanna Durrett

Deanna Durrett has been a longstanding supporter of the Lung Association, currently serving on the Northeast Board and chairing the Leadership Board for New York City. Deanna paved the road for her own journey when she was very young, becoming involved in advocacy efforts and taking a stand on tobacco laws in her hometown. Her voice reached many influential leaders and continues to create change today; We are so thankful to Deanna for her strides in the Fight For Air.

Deanna’s first accepted the role as a Youth Advocate in Kentucky; She was adamant about reducing tobacco use among teens and began volunteering with the American Lung Association at the early age of 13.  She was honored as the National Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids “Youth Advocate of the Year”, advised former President Clinton on teen tobacco use and even appeared on “Larry King Live” to discuss the issue. Years later, her diplomatic, passionate demeanor solidified her career path as an ambassador for other imperative matters; she currently is the legal counsel at Success Academy Charter Schools in Brooklyn, NY.

Deanna still participates in the American Lung Association’s call to action: At this year’s 2013 Fight for Air Climb in New York City, she became an integral part of the Planning Committee and garnered community support by making phone calls, hitting the pavement to recruit climbers, soliciting in-kind donations, and pitching in any way she could to ensure the event's success. On February 9, she raced to the top of One Penn Plaza with hundreds of others.

She is a perfect example of how one person can make a difference. Watch her in our 2013 Mission Video:
