Two Successes in Campaign to Eliminate Tobacco Sales in Pharmacies!

Westwood is the latest in a wave of Massachusetts cities and towns that have eliminated the sale of tobacco products in pharmacies.  This brings our total to 14 communities with 1.2 million people who will no longer see tobacco products sold next to medications and smoking cessation therapy at their local pharmacy.

On Thursday, July 28 the Joint Committee on Public Health favorably reported out two pieces of legislation that would prohibit the sale of tobacco products in all pharmacies in Massachusetts.  We are waiting to see where the bills will go next but this is an important first hurdle to overcome on the path to becoming law!

Thank you to the Committee Chairs, Senator Susan Fargo (who is also the lead sponsor of S1094) and Representative Jeffrey Sanchez, and to the House bill sponsor, Representative Sean Garballey, for championing this issue at the State House.
