Statement from the American Lung Association of the Northeast re: State Supreme Court’s Decision on State Parks’ Smoking Regulation

(October 11, 2013)

“We are disappointed in the recent court ruling regarding smokefree state parks. The U.S Surgeon General has warned that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke.  New Yorkers want and deserve to breathe clean, smokefree air when they are enjoying the playgrounds, swimming pools, concession areas and beaches at our state park facilities.  Thousands of New Yorkers enjoyed our smokefree state parks this summer; we hope that the Parks Department will appeal so that New Yorkers will continue to enjoy healthier environments in years to come.”
