NMC Will Begin Promoting Trek’s 2014 Anniversary Ride at this year’s Trek June 14-16

(June 10, 2013)

On Father’s Day weekend, the American Lung Association of the Northeast will celebrate the 29th annual Trek Across Maine, with more than 2,000 cyclists taking off from Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry and finishing up at Steamboat Landing Park in Belfast. Yet even before this year’s ride has begun, the Lung Association has been preparing in earnest for its upcoming 30-year Anniversary ride which will take place Father’s Day weekend in 2014.  To get a head start on preparations, the Lung Association has partnered with Nancy Marshall Communications, one of the state’s longest operating marketing and public relations agencies.  The firm has generously signed on to be the Presenting Communications Sponsor for the Lung Association’s 30th Anniversary Trek Across Maine.

“While the Trek Across Maine is already the Lung Association’s largest and most successful fundraising event nationwide, our goal is to further increase participation so we can do even more to find better treatments and cures for lung disease,” said Jeff Seyler, President & CEO of the American Lung Association of the Northeast.  “As we gear up to aggressively promote our 30-year Anniversary Ride in 2014, we’re grateful and delighted to be able to draw upon the expertise of Nancy Marshall and her team of seasoned communicators at Nancy Marshall Communications. As a trekker herself, Nancy has experienced the excitement of this event firsthand; we’re confident she’ll help us share the special excitement our Anniversary Ride will generate with an even wider audience.

Nancy Marshall, agency CEO, said, “The Trek holds a very special place in the hearts of many New Englanders, including myself. Our team is excited to help the American Lung Association use this wonderful milestone as a means of championing lung health and encouraging more riders than ever before to become part of the ‘Trekker’ family.”

As part of its sponsorship, the agency has created a 12-month strategic marketing plan, branded by the agency as The Marshall PlanTM, geared toward promoting the Anniversary Trek, attracting more riders and boosting fundraising through media relations, social media, grassroots outreach, special events leading up to the  anniversary ride, and more.

Nancy Marshall Communications will begin promoting the 2014 anniversary ride at this year’s Trek. Five staff members, dubbed the Social Media Squad, will be on hand at the event’s Team Tent City at Colby College in Waterville to generate excitement for the 2013 Trek and the upcoming anniversary using social media tools including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine and YouTube. Agency representatives will also be streaming live interviews with cyclists with the theme of “Why I Ride” as well as snapping images of participants holding written messages of support, hope and inspiration that will then be posted via social media.

More than 34 million Americans are living with lung disease, the third leading cause of death in the United States. The American Lung Association is not only committed to their mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, but  to reducing the burden of lung disease on all who are affected.  Participants in the 2012 Trek Across Maine helped raise more than $1.8 million to support the Lung Association’s research, education and advocacy.  The Lung Association is hoping to raise $2 million at the 2013 Trek Across Maine.

Registration for the Trek's 30th Anniversary ride is now open online at and will also be available on-site at this year's Trek.
