American Lung Association celebrates volunteer appreciation week

East Hartford, CT (April 16, 2012)

Jimmy TarziaThe week of April 15th, 2012 is recognized as National Volunteer Week. The American Lung Association celebrates their beloved volunteers year-round, but recognizes truly exceptional volunteers on this occasion.

James “Jimmy” Tarzia is a Stamford firefighter as well as a valuable supporter of the American Lung Association. “We thank Jimmy for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the Lung Association over the past three years; he is truly a role model for firefighters and community partners throughout the Northeast,” said Jeff Seyler, President & CEO for the American Lung Association of the Northeast.

Jimmy first became involved with the American Lung Association in 2009 when he heard about the “Tackle Trump Parc” Fight for Air Climb coming to Stamford. As a firefighter with Stamford Fire Local 786, Jimmy immediately felt a connection to the mission of the American Lung Association. Since then, he has been instrumental in the planning and execution of the organization’s event.

Jimmy has founded a “traveling team” of Stamford firefighters that not only climb in Stamford, but also in countless cities throughout the Northeast. They have become known as the team to beat throughout the entire region, continually returning home with the Fastest Firefighting Team trophy. Jimmy is a constant motivator to his team and their many supporters, having raising thousands so far to benefit the American Lung Association.
